Nathaniel Bowditch, 53; brought personal touch to Maine inn

Nathaniel Bowditch was an innkeeper. But more than that, his wife
said, he was a host and a gentleman.
Guests at the Portsmouth Harbor Inn and Spa, in Kittery, Maine,
were greeted with hot apple cider and warm chocolate cookies and
treated to Mr. Bowditch's near encyclopedic knowledge of everything
they should do, see, or experience, his wife said. .
Mr. Bowditch, who served as Maine's deputy director of tourism
for 17 years before becoming an innkeeper, died at his home in
Kittery on Sept. 4 of multiple myeloma complicated by amyloidosis.
He was 53.
