Elbe hopes Dubuque men build off late-season momentum; Obstacle: Lady Spartans try to work ball inside

The University of Dubuque men's basketball team finished strong down the stretch a year ago, winning five of its last eight games.

Two of those final three losses - to Luther and Coe - came on shots at the buzzer.

With four of his top players returning, head coach Mike Elbe and the Spartans hope to build on last year's finish and make a push up the Iowa Conference's ladder.

"This is my fourth year, and this is the best fit of young men that we've had," said Elbe, whose team was predicted to place 10th in the Iowa Conference by the league's coaches. "We are very optimistic because of that.
