THE new managing director of Mary Quant's fashion empire has
launched an astonishing attack on her skills as a businesswoman
after buying her out of the company that bears her name.
James Matsumiya, the British-based Japanese businessman who led
the takeover of the company, blamed Mrs Quant - now known by her
married name of Mrs Plunkett Greene - for the decline of the firm
and declared that she was "not a good businesswoman". He added: "You
know she was a very famous fashion designer in the Seventies. Since
then have you seen any good design? That was because of Mary."
