Laura Duguid was a timid child, but there was one person she was
always happy to see: her godfather J. M. Barrie, whose play Peter
Pan was inspired by her father, Nico Llewelyn Davies, and her four
uncles.
"He was brilliant with children," she says of Barrie. "My
clearest memory of him is when I was about four and I was left with
him for the whole afternoon in his gloomy flat. I remember being
surprised at myself at being completely happy, because I was a
rather silly, nervous little girl. He told me stories and there were
lots of games: hide-and-seek, and running around the table."
