Church advises clergy to apply for state benefits
|
HUNDREDS of clergy are expected to apply for state benefits after
the Church of England circulated official advice saying that many of
them could be eligible.
In a document seized on by critics as evidence of clerical
poverty, the Archbishops' Council has said married clergy with
children could claim the Working Families Tax Credit. The document,
sent to all paid clergy, has surprised many in the Church, who said
it was the first time such advice had been widely circulated.
