I AM, BY instinct, a beach, booze and Disneyland person myself -
bored by over-exposure to high culture. But when I visited the
Loire chateaux, something odd happened: I became addicted. I didn't
want to leave - they had to kick me out of Chinon at closing time -
and even then I hared straight off to another.
Of course, the splendour was partly responsible. If the fragile
