End of the line for the Teifi's seine netters

MORE than 850 years of tradition will come to an end this week
when the last seine net fisherman on the River Teifi in Wales
abandons the practice.
Alan Giles, the third generation in his family to work on the
seine net boats, is giving up the technique after catching only three
salmon this season.
Seine netting survives on a handful of Welsh rivers. The
technique - which involves a net handled by a boatman and a
colleague, who walks along the river bank as the boat moves in an arc
to the shore - is believed to have been introduced by Benedictine
