Germans knew the Battle of Britain was futile
|
It was the decisive second world war air battle which, in popular
imagination at least, prevented a Nazi invasion across the Channel.
But a previously unpublished Air Ministry intelligence report
reveals that even on the first day of the Battle of Britain, the
German High Command realised that invasion would almost certainly
never take place.
The report from July 10, 1940 - the day the Battle of Britain
began - reveals the Germans' doubts about the viability of Operation
Sea Lion, the planned seaborne invasion of the United Kingdom.
