Shinty back for a fixture with the future

WITH the annual winter break at an end, the nation's shinty players look forward to picking up their camans in earnest again on Saturday.

Perhaps the eight-week closedown was overlong, but on the shutdown Saturdays nothing like a full fixture list could have been completed anyway.

The prediction of John Willie Campbell, fixture supremo of the Camanachd Association, was eerily accurate - he had suggested the closedown weeks on the basis of statistics amassed during a lifetime in the game.

Indeed, the season resumes with held-over cup ties and not the intended completion of the league ...
