Abbey and BoS poised to beef up deal
|
ABBEY National and Bank of Scotland are keeping open the option
of sweetening their nil-premium merger for shareholders and will act
quickly to beef up the proposal if Lloyds TSB's conditional offer
for Abbey is referred to the Competition Commission.
So far, analysts have said that Abbey's biggest shareholders are
unlikely to favour a nil-premium merger with Bank of Scotland over
the #19 billion cash-and-shares offer from Lloyds TSB, even if they
have to wait months for Lloyds to clear the regulatory process.
