Some charitable organizations settle with state

A concerted effort by state officials to get charitable organizations to register with the secretary of state's office as the law requires has resulted in settlements being made by groups that cut across a broad spectrum. "There are plenty to go after," Assistant Attorney General Robert Williams said Tuesday. "There's no shortage of them.

"We'd like to think we're making some headway."

As legal counsel to the secretary of state's office, Williams was asked to enforce the charitable registration law after two or three notices were ignored by the organizations.
