Shinty needs to prove its cultural worth or risk terminal decay

IF you are president of the Camanachd Association, is it worthwhile writing a letter to the Minister for Culture and Sport to let her know what you feel should be shinty's place in Scotland's cultural strategy for the millennium?

Certainly the invitation is open to chip in your tuppence worth. But if you point out that the sport is unique to Scotland and has a pedigree going back to the establishment of Dalriada in the third century AD, you'd probably be wasting your time. The minister, Rhona Brankin, is uneasy about including sport under the banner of culture.
