Hudson River Named Nation's Second Most Endangered River

WASHINGTON, April 16 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Hudson River was
named
today the second most endangered river in the country by American
Rivers, the nation's leading river conservation group, because of
extensive polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) contamination in its upper
reaches.
The Upper Hudson River remains arguably the largest PCB
contamination site in the United States. PCBs are distributed over
190 miles of the Hudson River in river bottom sediments. The Hudson
River was designated a federal Superfund site in 1983. It is the
