Ipswich River Named One of Nation's Most Threatened Rivers

WASHINGTON, April 16 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Ipswich River was
named today one of the 20 most threatened rivers in the country by
American Rivers, the nation's leading river conservation group.
Rapid growth in communities along the river is increasing the
demand for water. Currently, 14 communities pump water from the
Ipswich, 80 percent of which is transferred out of the river basin.
Demand often exceeds the river's limited capacity resulting in fish
kills, mussel die-offs and other ecological degradation.
