1m pound dig will look for the head of James IV
|
A MAJOR archaeological excavation is to take place on a site that
historians believe may hold the head of James IV.
Standard Life, which owns the London site, said yesterday it was
spending at least GBP 1 million on a dig. The excavation had already
been planned because of important Roman remains, but the Scottish
dimension has opened a whole new avenue of investigation.
The company's commitment has been welcomed by historians and
archaeologists. However, it emerged the monarch's remains may never
be found because London churchyards were largely cleared in the mid-
19th century.
