THERE were no shrieks and not a knife in sight as the curtain was pulled back yesterday on a plaque commemorating the 100th anniversary of Sir Alfred Hitchcock's birth.

As director of the classic thrillers such as Psycho and The Birds, he became Hollywood's undisputed master of suspense and inspired terror in generations of filmgoers.

The renowned film-maker first made his name while living in a London flat and working at Islington Studios. Yesterday, aptly Friday the 13th, Patricia Hitchcock O'Connell, the director's daughter, revisited the flat in Cromwell Road to unveil the English Heritage ...
