Venture diverts Thames to Portugal, Chile and Brazil

THAMES Water yesterday moved a step further along its avowed path of becoming an international player with the announcement of a joint venture in Portugal.

It is linking up with Electricidade de Portugal , the country's largest power utility, to focus on water and wastewater opportunities there and in Brazil and Chile. Bill Alexander, the Thames chief executive, said the partnership would open up "significant opportunities" for both companies which neither could take alone.
