Alice Adams: novelist

THE American novelist Alice Adams, widely admired for her
artfully
constructed stories, has died in San Francisco, aged 72.
Ms Adams's ten novels and five collections of short stories about
women's lives sometimes reflected or anticipated changes in society.
After publishing her first story for The New Yorker in 1969, she
became one of the magazine's most distinctive voices.
Her 1975 novel, Families and Survivors, about a woman who moves
from the South to San Francisco, established her as an important
literary presence. Superior Women, which traced the lives of five
Radcliffe women, in 1984 ...
