Honour for Lord Kelvin, master of science

ONE of the brightest, but less celebrated, stars in the pantheon
of Scottish scientific invention was honoured in Glasgow yesterday
when a plaque was unveiled in his memory.
Lord Kelvin, or Sir William Thomson as he was known until his
ennoblement in 1892, was one of the 19th century's leading
physicists
and inventors.
A plaque was unveiled at Lord Kelvin's former home at Glasgow
University, where he was an undergraduate and then professor of
natural philosophy for 53 years.
He may not be as familiar as the great engineers James Watt and
