A dignified credit to Scotland from a much more gracious age

ELIZABETH, by the grace of God - that title, in strict protocol,
should be reserved to reigning sovereigns; but, as the Queen Mother
approaches her 100th birthday next Friday, it seems a singularly
appropriate description of a gracious lady who epitomises the best
of royal tradition.
Through her heritage, the present Queen is entirely Scottish on
her maternal side, besides other connections in the paternal line.
Indeed, more than three centuries after the ousting of the Stuarts,
the genetic arithmetic adds up to the Queen having more Scots than
English blood.
