SRU call in genealogist as Hilton family stick to Scots claim

THE Scottish Rugby Union is to employ a professional genealogist in an effort to retain the services of David Hilton, the 41-times capped player who was last week found to be ineligible to play for Scotland.

There is a possibility that Hilton's grandfather Walter was born in Edinburgh - as the player has claimed - despite a birth certificate which appears to show he was born in Bristol. If the SRU can prove Hilton was, in fact, born in Scotland but only registered in Bristol five weeks later, Hilton would be qualified to play for his adopted country.
