Lake Garda still a deathtrap despite Scot's conviction for boat tragedy

IT IS one of Italy's most beautiful tourist attractions, visited
by 1.6 million British holidaymakers every year.
But the desire to take to the waters of Lake Garda resulted last
week in a Scot's conviction for manslaughter over the deaths of
three members of a British family in a boating accident.
Despite the tragedy three years ago, it has now emerged that the
Italian authorities have done little to improve tourists' safety. No
co-ordinated emergency rescue system has been introduced for the
lake, visitors are still able to hire a boat without a licence, and
