A Nelson man spent 800 hours, used 200 metres of cord and tied more than 2500 knots creating a replica of the four-masted barque Pamir.

Bob Howard of Tahunanui, a crewman of the Pamir in 1947-48, said building the model was something he just wanted to do.

``It's a hand-made scale replica of the Pamir. It does actually float, I've only floated it in the bath but I want to take it down to the modellers' pond to test it out.'' The Finnish-owned Pamir had 32 sails but usually used only 31. Sails could be set for any wind direction, he said. It was taken as a prize of war by the New Zealand ...
