Doune's ready for fool Monty
|
IT IS a quarter of a century since hordes of disreputable
Stirling
University students - including a young, pre-Wasp Factory Iain Banks
- headed for Doune Castle, near Dunblane, for very shivery work as
extras on the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
Since then, Doune Castle's roles in what is the quintessential
Python movie have been largely forgotten. It was of course not just
the castle of Guy de Lombard, which the Python knights attempted to
storm in a Trojan rabbit; it was also Castle Swamp, where Sir
Launcelot, played by John Cleese, slaughtered most of the guests at
