Pendleton blankets weave respect into the product

Among American Indian tribes, few things run constant.
Ceremonies, stories and symbols vary widely from the Micmac Indians
in the East to the Yakamas in the West. Yet, visitors to nearly any
Indian community are likely to see one common thread: Pendleton
blankets.
For nearly 90 years, Pendleton Woolen Mills of Oregon has worked
to make its blankets, interchangeably referred to as robes and
shawls, popular among Indian people of all backgrounds. They give
them away at celebrations, wrap their newborns in them and bury them
with the dead.
