Rail Line Is Asked to Repay $212,000 -- Auditors question up to $378,000 in costs; Interurban President George Inness turns up in California

State auditors recommend that Yakima Interurban Lines Association and its embattled president, George Inness, pay back $212,000 in connection with a state-funded project to restore a railroad spur between Naches and Yakima.

The sum, disclosed in an audit released this week by the state Department of Transportation, could prove larger.

Auditors, whose findings have been submitted to DOT officials, are questioning up to $378,000 in costs relating to labor, vendor and supplier payments, the sale of railroad ties and bills that didn't relate to the project to restore freight service to the Naches ...
