Prep Football -- Walla Walla Freshman Dies From Head Injuries -- 14- year-old was hurt in game against Cadets -- John Quaresma

WALLA WALLA - A Walla Walla High School freshman football player injured in a game Thursday against Eisenhower High School died Tuesday morning.

John Quaresma, 14, was declared dead at about 2:30 a.m. at St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla.

Walla Walla County Coroner Stephen Ames said Quaresma suffered a head injury during the game.

Surgery was performed to remove a blood clot from Quaresma's brain, but the boy was unable to recover, Ames said.

Ames ruled the death accidental. He said no autopsy is needed.
