A special committee of Syrian parliament on Sunday gave its
blessings to the nomination of Bashar al-Assad for the post of
president to succeed his late father President Hafez al- Assad, who
died on June 10. According to the official SANA news agency, the 70-
member committee of the 250-seat People's Assembly discussed the
nomination of Bashar by the ruling Baath party and expressed its "
