U.S. Command Ship Calls at Hakodate Port

The U.S. Seventh Fleet flagship Blue Ridge called at a civilian
port in Hakodate on Japan's main northern island of Hokkaido this
morning, meeting protests by local antimilitary groups, according to
a report reaching here.
The U.S. navy said the call by the 18,372-ton command ship, the
home port of which is Yokosuka, southwest of Tokyo, aims at
promoting
friendship between the two countries, getting supplies and giving
crew members a rest.
But local antimilitary labor unions staged a protest rally around
the port, saying the visit is to help with a U.S. request to allow
its military to use the ...
