Former Algerian President Appeals for Talks in Algeria

Former Algerian President Ahmed Ben Bella today appealed for talks between the Algerian government and all oppositions, including the outlawed Islamic Salvation Front (FIS), reported the Agence France-Presse (AFP).

In an interview with AFP in Madrid, where he was attending a non-governmental conference on Algeria, Ben Bella said that "violence has never been as strong as today" in his country.

"The new elections, such as the next legislative elections, will not solve any problem," said the former president, who served as Algeria's first head of state after the country ...
