Apathy forces traders' group to shut up shop
|
A TRADERS' group leading the fight for the future of shopping in
Bathgate has folded.
The Bathgate Retailers/Business Association has given up the
ghost
after just two years because members felt increasingly apathetic
and
ignored.
It was the most vocal opponent of the spread of big shopping
centres, especially Livingston's Almondvale shopping mall, which it
feared was draining the town of custom.
But it lost the battle when the Scottish Secretary turned down its
bid for a public inquiry into Almondvale's GBP 60 million expansion,
due to go-ahead within 18 months.
