New tests for poison gases at coal bing
|
WEEKLY tests are to begin at a smouldering West Lothian bing to
assess poison gas emissions.
The move follows complaints from people living in the shadow of
Polkemmet Bing, near Whitburn.
They claim emissions have worsened in recent weeks. A number of
residents blamed gas clouds for headaches, sore throats and
dizziness.
Now environmental health officers are to climb onto the bing every
week to monitor the situation.
Occasional tests have been carried out in Whitburn since the bing
was set on fire in the mid-1980s.
