It's Robert Redford of Edinburgh .. oh really?

MYSTERY today surrounds screen idol Robert Redford's claim that his roots are in the Capital.

The movie star, who rose to fame in his role as the Sundance Kid in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, says his dad was a milkman in Edinburgh - just like the Capital's most famous son, Sean Connery.

But today no evidence could be found of his father's birth in Scotland.

And the only Redford listed in the Edinburgh telephone directory is originally from Manchester.

Redford revealed his Scots heritage during a flying visit to London to promote his new film, The Horse Whisperer.
