EDINBURGH LAW LEGEND DAICHES DIES AT 88

THE Capital's most colourful criminal lawyer, Lionel Daiches QC,
has died aged 88.
Tributes for the eminent lawyer have been led by Nigel Emslie QC,
dean of the Faculty of Advocates, who said: "Lionel Daiches was for
more than 50 years a loyal and trusted member of the faculty.
"His unique abilities as an orator were admired and respected
throughout Scotland. He will be sadly missed by all who met him."
Mr Daiches was born in Sunderland in 1911, the son of a rabbi.
His family moved to Edinburgh when he was eight years old and he was
educated at George Watson's College and Edinburgh University.
