LOTHIAN FIRM TO TAKE ON 1500 TOP RECRUITS

AMERICAN drugs giant Quintiles today announced a massive jobs boost for Lothian by revealing plans to take on more than 1500 extra staff.

The company, which already employs several hundred people in the area, has plants at the Heriot-Watt Research Park at Riccarton, Edinburgh, and Bathgate and Livingston in West Lothian.

There was speculation earlier this month that the company was to create 1000 new jobs - but today chief executive Dr Dennis Gilling revealed a total of 1527 more staff would be taken on over the next six years. A large number of the new jobs will be highly specialised.
