SINISTER, ungodly, depraved and diabolically cruel - Robert Lindsay brought out the very worst in Shakespeare's most admired villain.

His skilful performance set a chilling scene of the deepest winter of discontent, with perfect timing and amazing facial expressions intensifying the Bard's text.

We even caught magic glimpses of Woolfie, from Citizen Smith days, as Lindsay added comic touches to Richard, Duke of Gloucester, plotting his evil route to the throne.
