WAS ST PATRICK IRISH?
No, probably Scottish. Ireland's patron saint is widely attributed
with having brought Christianity to the largely pagan island in the
5th century. However, much about his life is shrouded in speculation,
including his birthplace. Many scholars believe the saint was born,
not in Ireland, but in Scotland in a village called Bannavem
Taberniae around AD389. There is no record of a village of this name
existing in Roman Britain, but other theories suggest that he could
have come from Strathclyde or Kilpatrick near Dumbarton. Succat (as
