Dance's Moving Pictures

WHAT HAPPENS when dance -- among the most ephemeral of the arts --
meets the camera? That question intrigued Paul Gordon Emerson,
artistic director of Washington's CityDance Ensemble, enough to found
an international dance film festival, Dance on Camera D.C., which
steps out for the first time Friday and Saturday at Dance Place.
CityDance Ensemble has developed such an avid interest in dance on
camera, as Emerson calls the genre, that it has dedicated an entire
unit, and a staff member, just to film and video work.
