Hours of testing and experimenting with possum fur has paid off for Westland possum entrepreneur Peter Gray.

A long-time proponent of trying to make something from what is arguably New Zealand's greatest environmental pest, Mr Gray says he can now manufacture a product which enhances the qualities of fine wool such as merino.

Bleaching possum fur means it can now be dyed in light colours, making it ideal for fashion garments incorporating wool, silk, or nylon and fur mixes, he says. Mr Gray said spun possum fur was becoming so fashionable that many garments were spun using a 60-40 wool and fur ...
