Whangarei judge calls end to long-running trial

WHANGAREI -- A judge called an end to a Whangarei trial
yesterday,
after 74 days and a two-day closing address.
Before Judge Lindsay Moore in the Whangarei District Court was
Michael Douglas Keesing, 39, a company director from Auckland.
Keesing pleaded not guilty to charges of wilful damage of a car
by
fire and, via a letter, threatening to kill or do grievous bodily
harm. The car belonged to a Kaitaia woman he met through a dating
agency in September 1994. It was set alight outside her home on
December 23, 1995, and the letter was received by her the next
month.
