Northland's hub, Whangarei, is undergoing a refreshing revival that has transformed the once entrenched provincial centre.

Today the city could be fairly described as a complete visitors' venue.

A refreshing 160 kilometres north of traffic-mad Auckland, Whangarei lies nestled amid bush-clad hills at the western end of a picturesque harbour. The streets are colourful, busy and vibrant. It is still a place where people can stop in the middle of town for a chat, where down- dressing is the norm and the hustle and bustle comes from shoppers and holiday-makers and not from grim-faced grey-suits. ...
