Conservationists working to preserve one of the world's wildlife
jewels - the Galapagos Islands in the Pacific Ocean - are nervously
studying the outcome of an ambitious experiment to rid the
archipelago of one of its most destructive uninvited guests. The
advent of the dry season in the Galapagos, which began last month,
will be a critical time to determine whether a voracious insect that
is eating its way through some of the rarest plants on earth has
finally met its match.
