Aviation body delays line marking

Electricity industry objections to the cost of making power lines more visible to aircraft has forced the Civil Aviation Authority to delay new line-marking rules.

Draft rules released last year contained a requirement that wires of a span greater than 400m, or higher than 45m, be clearly marked to increase their visibility to planes.

The new rules were introduced on April 1 without any mention of wire marking. CAA deputy director Max Stevens said the reason it was left out was because it was thought to impose unreasonable costs on the power industry. Another round of informal consultation was ...
