Is cheddar really yellow?; Survey: Cheese's color undetermined

MADISON (AP) - William Shakespeare didn't say it, but he could have: A cheddar of any color would taste as sweet.

A survey of Wisconsin cheeseheads shows people disagree about the color of cheddar cheese.

The survey, conducted by Chamberlain Research Consultants, found that 47 percent of Wisconsin residents think cheddar cheese is yellow, 37 percent believe it's orange and 7 percent say cheddar is white.

Turns out they're all right. Cheddar is naturally white but gets dyed different shades of yellow and orange.

DeAnn Cross, 28, a cashier at the Cheese Hut in Appleton, said cheddar is yellow.
