IT WAS a dialogue of the deaf. A small group of civil libertarians and gay rights campaigners gathered yesterday on the steps of St Martin- in-the-Fields church in central London. And a small group of outraged Christians stood by, behind a line of police officers, to shout them down.

The campaigners, including the Outrage activist Peter Tatchell, were there to read aloud a poem that was outlawed as a "blasphemous libel" 25 years ago to the day.
