Bouquet's fort at Raystown became state's second-largest city

This series of occasional articles is presented in conjunction with this year's Ligonier 250 Celebration and follows the Gen. John Forbes Campaign as it marched across Pennsylvania in 1758. The series is written by Burton Kummerow, author of a new book titled "Pennsylvania's Forbes Trail."

On June 24, 1758, Deputy Commander Col. Henry Bouquet had led 800 men ahead of the main army to an isolated spot. The small Raystown trading post was deserted after years of relentless French and Indian attacks.
