Council cuts funds to day labor center

POMONA - Although it was trimmed about 10 percent, a request to provide funding to the Pomona Economic Opportunity Center this week was approved by the City Council.

The council considered either providing $170,000 for the 2008- 2009 fiscal year, as it did last year, or reducing it to $136,000.

Instead, the council agreed to provide $153,000 in Redevelopment Agency funds, said Assistant to the City Manager Rob Butler.

Beginning in April, the request of the center, commonly referred to as the Pomona Day Labor Center, will be considered as part of the city's budget process, he said.
