A giant monolithic art project ,designed to be a beacon for the aspirations of an entire town, has been taken on by Evans Concrete, of Ripley. Oliver Astley visits a company about to prove that concrete can be the stuff that dreams are made of.

As jigsaws go, they don't get much bigger. There may be fewer than 60 pieces but each weighs about four tonnes and will have to be positioned with the utmost precision.

The St Helens Dream, a 20-metre-high sculpture of a dreaming girl's elongated head, is the brainchild of Barcelona-born artist Jaume Plensa.
