State lags raising venture capital <> 3 firms amass $5.4 million in quarter

Three state companies raised $5.4 million in the second quarter, bringing the total amount of venture capital raised in Wisconsin to nearly $33 million through June.

That puts the state slightly below the $36 million level it was at for venture capital funding at the same time a year ago, according to the MoneyTree Report by PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association, based on data compiled by Thomson Financial.

Nationally, venture capitalists invested $7.4 billion in 990 deals in the second quarter, nearly the same amount as was invested in the second quarter of 2007, ...
