NEW YORK - It went well beyond the last time the game deep into
the night, the whispered conversations with Bud Selig leading to the
unthinkable. A tie. In the All-Star Game. It took a game that meant
little more than an exhibition and made it a joke.
This one meant more. Because, the year after the 2002 All-Star
Game ended in a tie, the rules changed to give home-field advantage
to the winner. It made it more meaningful. It also meant last
night's game couldn't end in a tie.
